Bacteriostatic water is a sterile, non-pyrogenic water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol, used primarily to dissolve or dilute peptides, medications, and other compounds for multiple-dose injections. The benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative, inhibiting bacterial growth within the vial for up to 28 days after the first use.
